Poor metabolic health underlies many chronic diseases

Dr David Jehring organised the day and gathered an amazing line-up of both familiar faces and new guest speakers.

The day began with Dr Damien Downing outlining how the principles of Ecological Medicine are applied in improving metabolic health.

Dr David Jehring then gave an overview of Metabolic Syndrome, its causes, how to diagnose and monitor it using the latest technology such as Continuous Glucose Monitors and Insulin level tests. He outlined treatment options and gave an overview of its adverse effects on long term health, setting the scene for the more in depth talks on specific aspects of this.

The renowned cardiologist and public health campaigner Dr Aseem Malhotra examined cardio-vascular disease, the impact of metabolic health and whether heart disease can be reversed.

Rachel Nicoll PhD, addressed the topic of cancer as a metabolic disease.

Patrick Holford looked at the root causes of Alzheimer's disease and what measures can be adopted to prevent it. You may want to have a look at the free, validated Cognitive Function Test.

Finally the ever-popular Masterclass was presented by Dr Shideh Pouria and the panel. The panel included Dr David Unwin the RCGP expert clinical advisor on Diabetes. David is a past winner of the NHS Innovator Of The Year Award for published research into lifestyle changes; working with patients’ personal health goals as an alternative to drug therapy in type 2 diabetes.
